6. The Immersion Blender: A Completely Different Approach
In 1950, Swiss inventor Roger Perrinjaquet applied for a patent for a portable kitchen appliance that became the basis of the immersion blender. The appliance became known as the Bamix, a name derived from French words meaning to beat and mix.
Instead of placing a motor underneath a pitcher, an immersion blender places a small blade at the end of a handheld shaft. The cook lowers that shaft directly into the food.
